Oral Medicine deals with:

  • Diagnosis and management of diseases of oral mucosa.
  • Medical management of oral manifestations of systemic diseases.
  • Management of behavioral disorders oral and dental treatment of medically compromised patients.

Keeping these fundamental responsibilities in mind, our Department fosters the development of dental graduates and postgraduates with adequate knowledge, necessary skills & reasonable attitude which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate to general dental practice involving prevention, diagnosis & treatment of all dental & maxillofacial pathologies. In oral and dentomaxillofacial radiology, training in detail about the techniques and interpretation of intraoral and extraoral radiographs and radiographic diagnosis of the dentomaxillofacial pathoses is provided.

The Department has adequate space for oral diagnosis and radiology and functions in two sections:- In the ORAL MEDICINE clinic, all the patients who come to the dental college and hospital are examined. Diagnosis of diseases with scientific methods and laboratory investigations is done. All cases with oromucosal lesions are treated with various medical therapeutics. They are sent for comprehensive treatment in various specialties. Sections for Undergraduates and Postgraduates are available separately with 10 and 14 specially equipped dental chairs respectively.

ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL RADIOLOGY department is equipped with 3 dental chairs, 2 intraoral x-ray units, 1 mobile x-ray unit, 2 OPG machines and 2 daylight processing equipments. It is also equipped for the advanced imaging techniques encompassing a Gendex digital radiographic machine and Planmeca proline digital OPG machine. The radiology department is attached with a dark room with all provisions for processing of radiographic films.

Seminar hall is equipped with a projector where students are encouraged to present case reports and seminars on various topics in oral medicine and radiology.

Mission: The goal is to provide a basic and advanced education in Oral Medicine and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology for an improved understanding of all dental and maxillofacial diseases for appropriate diagnosis, investigation and management of oromucosal lesions, chronic orofacial pain states, temporomandibular disorders, dentomaxillofacial pathologies, and oral manifestations of systemic diseases.

The department is run by dedicated and astute clinicians who are well informed and highly educated to train the students.
